UCP Communicator is an application used as part of the Lockheed Martin Universal Communications Platform (UCP). Communicator connects to a UCP Gateway server and allows users to use their personal mobile device to communicate with others using the Communicator app in the same manner as a two-way radio. In addition, Communicator users can also communicate seamlessly with two-way radio users when the PTT server is connected to compatible two-way radio infrastructure.
UCP Communicator connects via internet protocol through cellular data or WiFi to the UCP Gateway server which is connected to the Land Mobile Radio (LMR) network. The LMR Information Technology (IT) infrastructure sees the transmission from the Communicator app once it leaves the PTT server in the same manner as it sees a transmission from a radio over the LMR system. In trunking configurations, the site controller cannot tell the difference between a two-way radio using the system and a device running the Communicator app connected through the Gateway Server. This allows the LMR system administrator to assign IDs to mobile devices in the same manner as they assign them to two-way radios.
UCP Communicator is compatible with P25 supports the same features as a two-way P25 radio.
The UCP Communicator app and UCP Gateway server allow for maximum flexibility and provide radio communications and interoperability capability to multiple users without purchasing additional radio hardware.
UCP Communicator only works in combination with a UCP Gateway server. This application will only operate if you or your organization have or have access to a UCP Gateway server.
Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
